Vineyards

Where Nature Meets Tradition

In our vineyards, nature takes center stage. Here, we cultivate with respect for the environment and biodiversity, employing practices that ensure healthy, high-quality grapes. Our vines are a historic treasure and the starting point for wines that express the true authenticity of our land.

The Principle of Variety

Indigenous Biodiversity

Here, between the Grave and the Colli Orientali, we at Le Due Torri cultivate biodiversity. Our vineyards are embraced by four hectares of natural woodland, bordered by the Torre stream, creating a unique microclimate and serving as a sanctuary for indigenous biodiversity.
Sixteen varieties of Vitis vinifera thrive here, seven of which are native to the region.

Cultivating Biodiversity

We cultivate biodiversity as a core value. Our work focuses on preserving the natural balance while respecting the surrounding environment. In addition to selecting native grape varieties, we promote sustainable farming practices by minimizing the use of chemical additives and favoring natural solutions. The presence of natural woodlands and proximity to a watercourse create a unique microclimate that supports the health of our vines. Every day, we strive to ensure healthy grapes and wines that fully respect our land, with a constant commitment to nature and its preservation.

Guardians of a Long History

Historic Vineyards

We take the utmost care of our historic vineyards: one dates back to the 1920s, the other was planted in the 1960s. It is the same care and dedication we devote to all our vineyards, ensuring their longevity—because old vines produce better wine.

Old vines produce better wine

Our vineyards are witnesses to a long-standing tradition. We carefully and devotedly preserve historic vineyards deeply rooted in the past. Thanks to their maturity and profound connection to the land, old vines produce superior quality grapes, resulting in richer and more complex wines. Each bottle is the outcome of years of experience and passion, enabling us to continue telling the story of our region through the authentic taste of our wines.

Handcrafted to Do It Right

Passion, Emotion, and Meticulous Care

Here at Le Due Torri, making wine means doing it with passion, feeling, and the meticulous care of a craftsman. From the grape harvest to the winemaking processes, hands-on work is central to our production—just as our forefathers taught us, but combined with the knowledge and science of modern oenology. Our goal is to strengthen and renew a winemaking tradition that we deeply respect.

Exclusively Hand-Harvested Grapes

Hand harvesting is a tradition we proudly continue to uphold because we believe that only by giving our grapes the proper time and attention can we achieve the best results. Each cluster is carefully picked and selected directly in the vineyard to preserve the quality and health of the fruit. This artisanal approach allows us to handle every single bunch with the utmost delicacy, keeping its integrity intact. Hand harvesting is not just a method of picking; it is a gesture that reflects our dedication and passion for winemaking—a craftsmanship that enables us to fully express our territory and tradition.

The Vineyards

Our Vineyards in the Colli Orientali

“Monte San Biagio” Vineyard
A steep terraced hillside vineyard, planted in 1970. It offers panoramic views with a southeast exposure. Main grape varieties include Picolit, Verduzzo, Friulano, Cabernet, and Merlot. The soil is typical of the Colli Orientali area: marl-sandy flysch, a type of Eocene-origin terrain characterized by alternating layers of marl (clay) and sandstone (sand). Locally, this soil is known as “Ponca.”

“Bolzano” Hamlet Vineyard
A valley-floor vineyard established in 1966. It features the typical layout of the era with 3,400 vines per hectare and numerous trees growing between the rows. The primary grape varieties are Pinot Grigio, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, and Franconia. Located near the Natisone River, the soil consists of alluvial deposits with a high presence of gravel. The rows are planted following the natural slope in a contour pattern.

Torre Vineyard and Apiary
Located close to the Torre stream, this vineyard was planted between 1991 and 2005. The soil is composed of alluvial deposits and gravel, similar to the Bolzano vineyard. Situated on a plateau with north-south row orientation, it hosts multiple grape varieties, including Tazzelenghe, Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, and Pinot Grigio. Planting density varies from 4,500 to 6,500 vines per hectare.

Historic Villa Garzolini Vineyard
One of the few historic vineyards in the region (fewer than 15), dating back to 1926. Located within the private park (Broilo) of Villa Garzolini, it is enclosed by a tall boundary wall. It hosts the traditional grape varieties of the time: the native Verduzzo and Friulano, alongside the international Merlot. The soil here is alluvial in origin but older, with a higher clay content. The planting density follows the standard practice of the era, with 3,500 vines per hectare.

Fornaci Vineyard
Situated in the northernmost part of the estate, this vineyard was planted between 2005 and 2018 and is notable for its unusual (for Friuli) curved row layout, which creates a striking visual effect. The varieties grown include Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Schioppettino, Ribolla, and Refosco. It features a modern planting density of 6,500 vines per hectare. The soil is predominantly marl-sandy flysch on the south-facing plots and alluvial on those immediately below.
